Eurotrip 2006-2007

I have embarked on a 5-6 month trip around europe that begins in London England, and will finish in Paris France in early October. From there I will surely work on a ski hill for the upcoming winter season, until May 2007, in the French Alps as I have a working-vacation visa.

San Sebastien (SS)

So after a gorgeous and crazy town like Barcelona, and the fact that everyone says SS is gorgeous, my expectations were very high. All of the hype for SS was well worth it. What a gorgeous beach town! No wonder everyone flips out over this town and recommends it to everyone else. It's nicely secluded in Basque country with your feet in the tip of the Cantibarian sea and your ass on the Pyrenees. The town itself is a little alcove that forms a sort of crescent to kinda close in and harbour all of its splendour (both pics). And the turtle shell in the middle of the bay is of course perfectly situated to split the bay in half and really fullfill its crescent shape.

Kimmy and I rolled in with the night bus, and were thrown into this amazing and picturesque place that is very welcoming and a nice relaxing change from the previous action packed big city. The hostel was nice, but a little far from the central area so we walked a lot but it was all good. We got the chance to enjoy some great sunsets and again, appreciate some cheap alcohol to complete the whole experience.

There isn't much else to do here other than hit the beach, surf, check out a few sites, and of course relax, so we did the latter a lot. It was a nice change of pace, and we had a lot of fun just screwing around and being our true stupid quebeker selves (pic left). And.....with all this time to think and relax, I realized I am really due for trimmin the ol' crotch bucket (pic right).

Bilbao (Guggenheim)

We stopped by Bilbao for an afternoon on our last day together inorder to visit ze Guggenheim museum. This place is just crazy in terms of engineering. The building itself is the main attraction (both pics), designed by Frank Gehry, an american, and it surpasses all of its computer software engineering potential. The building is freaky and breath taking! All made of stainless steel and some glass. It flows with the surroundings as it has a shallow pool in the front to ellicit an image of continuity with the parallel canal, and the towers across the bridge in order to envelope this bridge and not have it constrain the museum within its boudaries. It is pretty damn sweet but it is design by man and made possible by machine.......computer software and laser cutting and all that hoopla so I still much rather and am even more blown away by Gaudi.......!!!!!! Since he did with his own noggin and no shiny gadgets. Whoooowaaaaa !!

Inside the museum, there are some really unique and quite innovative pieces of art in the form of sculpture, paintings, montages, but also funky stuff like igloos made of glass and other forms of art I don't know how to describe but they have presence and they aren't classical forms so I appreciated that a lot. It was a shame that you can't take pictures inside though so that is all I will say about that.....Go see it for yourself. But, around the museum there was other really neat stuff, like the fingerprint made of iron (up left), and the huge spider (up right). There was also this awesome and super original statue setting as you can see on the left, and a cool pedestrian bridge (right).

Bilbao is really putting itself on the map, cause without the museum, there ain't much. We took a funicular to the top of a little mountain to check out the town and there was an even bigger fingerprint (pic left) which was really cool and the view was nice also. So it was a short and sweet visit to Bilbao, but we saw everything there was to see but, then came the time to part as Kimmy was taking her plane from Bilbao back to London and I was heading up to Biarritz (pic right), so we were off like Jewish foreskin.

It was a good time chillin and voyaging with little Kimbo, we saw some cool things together and I'm sure we'll remember this for a while...........Ahhhhhhhhhh............times in Spain.............

Talk to you soon in France !!!!!!

a bientot la gang.
